Storey-and-a-half house at twilight under a vivid sunset sky, real estate photography by Clicks & Castles

Why twilight photos make a listing stand out

Most listing photos are taken in daylight, which is exactly why twilight photos get noticed. Warm windows against a deep blue or orange sky make a home feel lit up, welcoming and lived in.

What twilight does for a listing

  • It stands out in a feed full of daytime exteriors
  • Glowing windows suggest a warm, comfortable home
  • It shows off exterior lighting, landscaping and architectural details
  • It makes a strong first photo for the MLS and social media

Which homes suit twilight photos best

Twilight works especially well for homes with large front windows, good exterior lighting, interesting rooflines or landscaping, and waterfront or rural properties with an open sky. A home with dark, small windows facing away from the sunset may be better served by a daytime exterior.

How the shoot works

The best light lasts only a short time after sunset, so twilight photos are scheduled around the sunset that day and the weather. We arrive early to set up and use that short window for the exterior.

If an evening shoot isn’t practical, we also offer virtual twilight: a daytime exterior edited into a dusk scene, with a twilight sky and glowing windows.

How to get the house ready

  • Turn on every interior and exterior light, including lamps and pot lights
  • Open curtains and blinds on the front of the house
  • Move cars out of the driveway
  • Switch on any landscape lighting or a fireplace that can be seen through a window
